Dissections

September 20, 2009:

September 2010 – Teatro anatomico di Padova (1594) – the first anatomical theater worldwide. Anatomy lessons in early modernity were theatrical spectacles. To get a good view the human or animal cadaver was dissected in the very center of these particular amphitheater spaces. At the anatomical and pathological institute in Padova one of the older modern dissecting tables is still used in class. However the table is presented in the lecture hall as a museum object.
